MTV in Acapulco!

MTV will be in Acapulco Bay, Mexico with all the hottest hip-hop artists and Spring Break madness we’ve come to expect from them every break. The network will descend upon the Playa Suites Hotel from March 14th to March 18th and transform it into MTV Village. There’s sure to be wild times, great contests, and plenty of free swag.

Keep a look out for MTV partner StudentCity.com! They’re teaming up with MTV again this year to throw one hell of a kick-ass party. They’re also giving away a free trip.

Spring Broke?

If serious financial troubles are standing in the way of your Spring Break Vacation you might want to turn to MTV and Casting Call. There’ll be the Real World Challenges Crew in Acapulco as well and Casting Call is looking for a few outgoing college students to feature on MTV. If you’ve got the right stuff then you may end up being followed around by a camera all break. I don’t think I’d like it.. College Spring Break Travel Costs

Bing Travel’s Spring Break Forecast released this year shows airfare costs for Spring Break travelers in 2009 were up 9%. The good news is hotel rates have decreased 15%. Although airfare is higher this year, the low lost of domestic hotel rates means a better value that can bring down the cost of the whole trip.

“Despite the recession, airlines are continuing to cut capacity, and spring airfares are creeping back up to 2008 levels,” said Bing Travel Fareologist Joel Grus. “Thankfully, we are seeing a deep decrease in hotel prices across the board, which could reduce overall trip costs and offset higher airfares.”

Here’s some tips to save on airfare for Spring Break:

Don’t travel in late March. Traveling early in March can save you as much as $65.00

Fly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Yep. You heard right. A seven night Wednesday to Wednesday or Tuesday to Tuesday trip is going to save you about $85 less than going on a Friday or Saturday.

Use Bing’s Travel Price Predictor to get an edge on air travel cost and monitor current rates. This is a great tool that can lead to savings on airfare.

The report indicates that on average premium hotel rates for the popular domestic Spring Break destinations are down nearly 15% over 2009. The decrease in demand means that hotel owners have slashed prices to make up for occupancy. Look for this trend to continue into 2010.

If you’re really looking to save some cash on a domestic Spring Break Vacation try for a destination out on west coast like Las Vegas or Maui. Weekend rates for airfare and hotel in Vegas is down 14% this year and for Maui costs have dropped an average of 21% compared to last year. Although airfare did rise for vacations to Florida it’s still a winner for travel savings overall with hotel rates down 14% in 2009.

If you still have your mind set on travelling south of the border check out Puerto Vallarta. The dollar is at a very favorable point with the peso, in fact the best exchange rate in 16 years. When your money’s worth more, it’ll go further. In terms of airfare, a ticket to Puerto Vallarta really didn’t increase much compared with other destinations.
